About this archive
Phil West is a grumpy and perennially curious gentleman from the UK. Since times before the dawn of mankind (that is, before the Internet), he collected knowledge and wrote about his findings and ideas.
Of special interest to him are language, science fiction, the military, historical weapons use, and survival. It was around the latter topics that we got in touch: Knife throwing as a martial exercise, and throwing weapons in general. Phil's interest with knife throwing was not merely academic, he personally tried out many of the throwing styles he learned about.
Our contact moved from the
thrower mailinglist to email, and in September 2024 he brought up the topic of preserving his writings. He gracefully agreed that I should host a mirror archive of his throwing related blog articles - the very pages that you now see.
Many of his articles are already part of our
thrower archives, as indicated in the article list.
Phil West also distilled his learnings into books such as the recent "Attack, Avoid, Survive: Essential Principles of Self Defence".

Phil, looking forward to more exchanges on knife throwing!

The articles of Phil moved around on the internet, he used to host them at Blogger, some at Angelfire, and finally his own
phillosoph.com.
We try to have this archive in a static, self-contained form. For that reason, some of the external links have been replaced to point to this page - for example because the original target does not exist any more.
When you jumped here from a page clicking on such a redirected link, the respective list entry should be the one visible right on top of this page. If it is not, look for the number in the address bar, and match it to the one in the list.
